Dial-up Connection Setup
Windows XP
- Go to Start, and select Control Panel.
- Click on Network or Internet Connection.
- Click on Setup Or Change Your Internet Connection.
- Click on the Add button (brings up the new connection wizard)
- Select Dial-up to a Private Network (connect using my phone line, modem or ISDN)
- Click Next
- Put in one of our 56K access numbers including the area code, then press Next.
- Type in eclecTechs for the name of this connection.
- Press Finish
- The eclecTechs Settings dialog box should now open.
- Enter your username (make sure it is your full e-mail address. ex: username@valinet.com).
- Enter your password.
- Do not put anything in the domain section.
- Press OK. You will be brought back to the Internet Properties dialog box.
- Put a check next to Dial whenever a network connection is not present.
- Press Apply
- Press OK.
Windows 2000
- Go to Start, and select Network and Dial-up Connections.
- Double Click Make A New Connection (opens the Internet Connection Wizard).
- Click Next.
- Select Dial-up to a Private Network (connect using my phone line, modem or ISDN).
- Click Next.
- Put in one of our 56K access numbers including the area code, then press Next.
- Make sure Use Dialing Rules is not checked off, then click Next.
- Select Create This Connection For All Users.
- Click Next.
- Name the connection eclecTechs and check off Add a Shortcut To My Desktop.
- Click Finish.
- Your dial-up connection is all set, you will now need to setup your e-mail.
- Go to e-mail setup.
- Once you have setup your e-mail, you can connect by double clicking on the eclecTechs icon on your desktop.
- Enter your username (make sure it is your full e-mail address. ex: username@valinet.com).
- Enter your password.
- Click Connect.
Windows ME
- Go to Start, Settings, and select Dial-up Networking.
- Double click on Make a New Connection.
- Change the name to eclecTechs.
- Click Next.
- Put in one of our 56K access numbers including the area code, then press Next.
- Click Finish.
- Right click on the eclecTechs icon and select Properties.
- In the General tab, uncheck Use Area Code and Dialing Properties.
- Click on the Networking tab.
- Make sure PPP,Internet, Windows 2000/NT, Windows ME is selected.
- Make sure Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP are checked off as well.
- Click on the Security tab.
- Enter your username (make sure it is your full e-mail address. ex: username@valinet.com).
- Enter your password.
- Make sure nothing is checked in the Advanced Security Options.
- Click on the Dialing tab.
- Check off, This is the Default Internet Connection.
- Check off, Dial Whenever a Network Connection is Not Present.
- Click OK.
- Close out of Dial-up Networking.
- Your dial-up connection is all set
Windows 95/98
- Open up My Computer from the Desktop and double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
- Double-click the Make New Connection icon.
- This will walk you through the Make New Connection wizard.
- Type in The name of the computer you are dialing, "eclecTechs".
- Click the Next button.
- Put in one of our 56K access numbers including the area code, then press Next.
- Click Next.
- Press Finish.
- Select your newly-created connection icon.
- Press the right mouse button and choose Properties.
- Uncheck, Use area code and dialing properties (Win 95: Uncheck, Use area code and country code).
- Click the Server Type Tab. (Win 95: Click the Server Type button. You'll get the Server Types dialog box.
- Make sure the "PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98 is selected. (Win 95: make sure "PPP:Windows 95,Windows NT 3.5, Internet" is selected.)
- Make sure that Log on to network in the Advanced options: section is not checked. Leave Enable Software Compression checked.
- Make sure that TCP/IP in the Allowed Network Protocols: section is checked. Uncheck everything else in this section.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button in the remaining dialog box, and you're almost ready to dial!
- Right click on your newly created icon and select Create A Shortcut.
- Press Yes when the window says it cannot place a shortcut here, would you like to place one on the desktop.
- Close up Dial-up Networking and you should see your shortcut on the desktop. Your dial-up connection is all set.
- You can connect by double clicking on the eclecTechs icon on your desktop.
- Enter your username (make sure it is your full e-mail address. ex: username@valinet.com).
- Enter your password.
- Click Connect.
OSX
- From the Apple menu, select System Preferences and then, Network.

- Click the PPP tab, and in the Telephone Number box, enter one of our local access numbers.
- In the Account Name box, enter your username (for example, userame@valinet.com).
- Type in your Password. Select the save password if you prefer.

- Close the Network panel and when prompted, click Save
OS9
- Click on the Apple.
- Select Control Panel.
- Select TCP/IP.
- Make sure that, "Connect via PPP" is selected.
- On the bottom right hand side you should have a box for Search Domains. Type in valinet.com.
- Close out of TCP/IP and save the changes.
- Click on the Apple.
- Select Control Panel.
- Select Remote Access.
- Enter your username (for example, username@valinet.com)
- Enter your password.
- Put in one of our 56K access numbers.
- Click on Options.
- Go to Protocol.
- Make sure "Connect automatically when starting PPP applications", is checked off.
- Press OK.
- Close out of Remote Access and save the changes.
